Thursday 12 November

Another great day today-this time at Dalton St Mary's CE Primary School! I have a soft spot for this school because they were the first school to invite me as an author and they asked me to work with the youngest children. At that time I had only Out of Time: Secret of the Swan and I decided to draft a quick children's book and draw some pictures so I had something to work with in Foundation Stage. This became "Guy the Grumpy Gargoyle" and I eventually dedicated the book to Dalton St Mary's.

Today I worked with Year three and we had great fun creating characters, building settings and working with the evidence box. The children had lots of excellent ideas and they were very imaginative. However, the icing on the cake was discovering that they too would like to "adopt" me as Patron of Reading for their school. I am really looking forward to working with all three schools and they will be receiving a package soon for their class or library -a small early Christmas gift! Of course we will share books together and enjoy lots of stories new and old and I hope that they will be the first readers of my new book- "The bat who was afraid of the dark" which I am illustrating at the moment. Lots of fun ahead...
