Grange C of E Primary School

Gill visited us as part of our World Book Week celebrations. She was extremely flexible and delivered a range of activities: writing character profiles, developing descriptive story writing, reading story extracts and carrying out question and answer sessions. During the morning, she worked closely with Foundation Stage and KS1 and the children thoroughly enjoyed looking at Guy the Grumpy Gargoyle. After lunch, work continued with KS2 and the children produced some fantastic ideas for characters and story descriptions. Finally, the day ended with a prize giving assembly. Overall, all the children thoroughly enjoyed meeting a ‘real life author’ and many are now absorbed in reading their own copies of Gill’s books.

Many thanks for your day with us before half term. The children and staff really enjoyed your sessions. Thank you for showing such empathy with the children, for inspiring them and taking such an interest in ther responses. Thank you for sharing your work and for giving an insight into an author's work. We look forward to using your texts and to using the teachers' notes for guided reading when you have finished them. Good luck with your current work.

On Thursday 30th November the whole school had a visit from Gill Jepson, who is a local author from Barrow. She has written a series of books called Out of Time and Guy the Grumpy Gargoyle. The children worked on writing and reading activities throughout the day. We ahd an assembly to finish the day and choose our competition winners, who won a signed book from Gill. There was also an opportunity to purchase her books and get them signed at the end of the day. Mrs Roberts said "By inviting Gill into St Begh's School it was promoting our "Reading for Pleasure" ethos. It was so nice for the children to meet a local author and work with her on reading activities." We can't wait to invite Gill back again to our school.

...year 3-6 have been working with Gill Jepson on the development of characterisation. Gill used her recently published book "Out of Time-the Secret of the Swan" to highlight her teaching. The children were captivated by this mystery story which is set in Furness Abbey, as I was myself when I read it over the Christmas Holiday...

On Thursday, 8th March, we were fortunate to have local author Gill Jepson in school. Gill visited all classes throughout the day, completing a writing workshop with each class. In the afternoon, prizes were handed out to pupils who had produced the best pieces of writing. Gill was then available after school to sign copies of her book 'Out of Time:The Secret of the Swan'.

Gill Jepson visited Cartmel Priory School for a full day and delivered 5 workshops with energy and enthusiasm to students across all ages. The visit was exceptional value for money and enabled us to provide our students with an engaging author visit this term.
